Launched at the end of 2013 by the government, "French Tech" is aimed at all those who work for French start-ups, in France or abroad.
This initiative is linked with the departments of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, but also with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the General Commission for Investment.
The "La French Tech" label refers to the territories most favorable to the development of start-ups in France.
Its objective is clear: to bring together all the players involved in start-ups in order to support the French innovation and make it known internationally.
What is "Le French Tech visa"?
The "French Tech Visa" launched by Emmanuel Macron on June 15, 2017 is a procedure that simplifies and accelerates administrative formalities for foreign workers (and their families) employed by innovative French companies wishing to obtain a right of residence in France.
Thanks to the French Tech Visa, foreigners employed in a company recognised as innovative will be able to benefit from a residence permit valid for 4 years. The processing time for requests treatment has also been reduced to a few weeks thanks to the changes adopted on 1 March 2019.
This visa is mainly aimed at foreigners with highly qualified profiles, a driving force for innovation and creativity for companies and start-ups.
Which companies can benefit from a French Tech Visa?
Employer companies must first be recognised as innovative by the Ministry of Economy and Finance and must fulfill specific criteria:
- have received public support for innovation over the last five years
- have part of its capital held by an entity whose main purpose is to finance or invest in innovative companies
- have been assisted over the last five years by a support structure dedicated to innovative companies
